My Students

Our school is in the heart of Brooklyn, NY. It is a brand new school with a load of potential. The school includes students from pre-k to kindergarten, and it is a melting pot of children from all around the world. Our school is in a high poverty area, and about ninety-five percent of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are fifteen, energetic, three and four-year-old children in my class but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts. Although our families give us support, they can't always help out financially.

My Project

Consider these great reasons to support our project and providing our classroom with a dollhouse. They help build children's social skills development, Fine motor skills and vocabulary acquisition.

Kids want to be just like the grownups they love.

They want to be able to do the same things we do. Dollhouses allow kids to step into the adult world and participate in situations they imagine the adults in their lives readily face. The development of social skills occur in the midst of this play. They allow children to initiate dialogue and pretend to interact within complicated situations. And, these types of play help children develop empathy, especially when playing with other members of the family or close friends.

The smaller the dollhouse the more fine motor skills that will be necessary. Remember that children will be placing small items into relatively small spaces. That will help them practice their perception of spatial relationships and aid them in grasping small objects.

Dollhouses open the door to a plethora of conversations dependent upon the day’s creative play. Kids will learn a number of terms that apply to décor, direction, colors, sizes, shapes, and settings. And, they are an excellent tool for children who are less comfortable speaking aloud in larger group settings. Teachers can utilize dollhouses to help shy kids develop vocabulary in an enjoyable and safe manner.
