Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very special first graders in a high needs area of a borough in New York City. All of the students receive free lunch, many live in shelters or temporary homes. The project will reach 15 bilingual education students from predominately: Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. These students are learning English as a new language, and are learning to read in English for the first time. My students are special because when they come in my class their knowledge of english is very little or none. By the time the school year finish they address their parents in English. It is so funny when parents tell me he or she wants to speak English.

Unfortunately, my classroom does not always have the supplies we need.

Every donation makes a difference in my students' lives. I look forward to creating projects that will make our physical and virtual classroom a joyful learning environment. Thank you!

My Project

This document camera will make it easier to adapt to the difficulties of distant learning for my students and myself. The document camera will serve as a way for students to view, and have access to materials in a much clearer way. I am requesting a document camera for an easy transition from in person learning to distance learning. At this time I'm having to hold up the work, book, etc to show the students that are learning from home. The document camera will enable them to see clearly the document or book that is being used in my lesson.

I will ensure that technology is being used thoughtfully, to enhance lessons and learning in my classroom.

A document camera allows my students to see anything from a piece of paper to additional materials that will help them develop their reading and writing skills. With a document camera, I will be able to point, annotate, zoom in and out, or get different views by turning the camera-head of the document camera. Its flexibility can also help to develop my lessons and students’ creativity. By donating a document camera to my class, it will help my students stay focused and engaged while I model any activities. One of the benefits of having this technology is to actively engage my students during lessons. This tool is great for visual learners.
