Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Science and all STEM subjects are for our future. It’s innovative and progressive. It’s everything from cell phones to cars, to buildings and everything in between. Thus the teaching of Sciences needs to be innovative in nature. Technology prepares students as they embark on their future endeavors.

My students are as varied as the color of the rainbow, including their learning abilities.

Many of these students are the first of their families to go to college. Despite the low income, high crime neighborhood they are growing up in, our students are determined to persevere and beat the odds. By exposing them to the same innovative technology as their more affluent peers we are assuring them the same advantage. The ability to navigate and use technology to enhance learning will better prepare our students as they move on to college and become competitive adults in the work place.

My Project

These items will be used specifically to enhance Science curriculum. The projector will allow me to project lessons from my laptop to the whiteboard. With the document camera I will also be able to model 3-D activities such as dissections and other lab experiments so that all students can see clearly rather than just a few. I am able to make dissection cuts one step at a time and the students are easily able to follow along, instead fighting for space while everyone gathers around one dissection. This creates a full class engagement, because the students can see Science in action. The projector connects to the document camera to project the image on to the board which allows students to be easily fully engaged in the dissection.

Being introduced to the use of new technology and learning concepts through a 3-D lens will encourage engagement, and enhance learning.

This is the genre of technology that students will be exposed to in college, prior access and knowledge will help them be more successful as the embark on post secondary adventures. We must prepare our young people to enter an innovative and technologically rich work place.
