My students are 6 and 7 year old students who attend a Title I school. They are creative, full of questions, and love to learn. They love to show off their individuality and work with their peers. Most of them are part of the free and reduced lunch program and need help getting what they need for school. Often times, my students don't have the background knowledge for content taught, so videos, games, hands-on materials, and repeated exposure, in a variety of ways, helps them tremendously.
With schools closing suddenly in Virginia on March 13th of this year, schools and teachers were not equipped with the technology and resources to best support students. Teachers struggled to find what they could use at home to provide the best visuals for students during instruction.
In 1st grade, students really need hands-on learning with excellent visuals for virtual instruction to work.
With a document camera and easel, I will be certain to have the ability to provide visuals for all of my students. I will be able to project what I am writing for my students, read aloud books, and model how to complete math problems. This will keep my 6 and 7 year old students engaged and wanting to learn this year!
