My Students

I teach in Brownsville, Brooklyn, where there is poverty and murder taking over our community. Regardless, my scholars walk into my classroom daily, ready to count numbers and enjoy math.

As a Special Education teacher, I am charged with making Math exciting and engaging.

My scholars have special needs and different learning styles, and as you can figure, how could I possibly differentiate and challenge my scholars without the help of useful technology? As an incentive in the classroom, my goal is to provide them with opportunities to read and work on apps that are related to what we are learning. How can my scholars be college and career-ready without technology within our classroom?

My Project

During Math class, I often ask my scholars to go to the board to show their work and demonstrate their learning. This is exciting for them. The document camera will allow them to use the worksheet to show of what they know, especially in 8th grade Math, where we work with graphing and geometry. My scholars have special needs and have different learning styles. We would use the iPad to develop individualized learning for them in the classroom. They would be able to watch videos to visualize the steps as we work. it will also serve as an incentive for them, as I will download student-friendly apps for them to continue practicing the skills we have learned.

As we are in the age of technology, it is important to afford my scholars every opportunity to be prepared to enter high school, college and the workforce prepared to compete with everyone.
