My Students

Today's society revolves around computers, video games, iPods, cellphones, and cartoons! Seldom do kids take the time to watch the news to see what is going on in their neighborhood, their city, their state, their country, or even around the world.

I work at a Title One School in South Carolina, where the student population is predominately African-American.

Most of my students are on free or reduce lunch who many times, come from a one parent home. I have noticed that my students can tell me about the latest video games, the latest dances, or about the reality show that they watch on BET last night, but nothing about current news events.

My Project

This upcoming school year, I will be teaching 3rd and 4th grade English Language Arts and social studies. Having Time magazine for Kids would be excellent to incorporate in reading lessons and social studies lessons. Using Time magazine for Kids would also be good for class discussions to begin our school day. Not only can Time magazine for Kids be use for reading and social studies, but culture awareness! Time Magazine for Kids will allow my students to keep up with current events!

Time magazine for Kids will give my students the opportunity to keep up with current events.

Today's society is so wrapped up into technology that we sometimes forget about the news. With your help, it is my duty to expose my students to current events by encouraging them to watch the news and read the newspaper!
