My Students

Worrying about food, money, transportation, and clothing are adult worries, yet many of the students at my school face these "grown-up" problems each day. In spite of the challenges they face, they constantly rise to the occasion and frequently blow me away with their abilities to learn.

My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Some have, and some do not. It is my job to level their playing field so that all have a chance to be successful. Through hands-on, exciting, and active assessment, all students in my third grade, inner-city classroom prove themselves time and time again. My students are eager to please and perform in a way that shows off all that they know. Hands-on science tools like these tuning forks I am requesting will only aid them further in showing off their abilities.

My Project

Currently, my students are exploring sound and the unique way it travels through solids, liquids, and gases. Tuning forks play a pivotal role in teaching the concept. Tuning forks are provided through science kits, however some kits are missing the tuning forks, and some of the tuning forks are broken. The kits are shared with other classrooms, and often the materials are misplaced. I would like my own class set to keep for my students so we can experiment with the tuning forks at any time. Having these forks on hand in the class year round will enable me to keep the science concept of sound on the forefront of students' minds throughout the year!
