I am a third grade teacher who has been trying to find new and creative ways to teach more world history, science and current events. I know how important it is for children to read and be aware of what is happening in the world today. I believe that teaching tolerance can begin in the classroom with the right tools and materials. You should also know that third grade is a testing grade and content areas are rarely taught in depth, but are extremely necessary for the State reading tests. I would like to use a children's magazine "TIME FOR KIDS" to expose my students to more world history, science and current events. Believe me when I say it is very hard to teach history when the textbooks are older than the teacher. "TIME FOR KIDS" is really kid friendly. When they see current events with pictures it helps them to learn and grasp their reading material. This magazine is just right for learning about the world around them on their level. This magazine would provide more opportunities for children to become aware of global issues and get involved in discussions when they can imagine a world outside of their neighborhood. They may even spend more time reading. I wish I had more time for teaching. Maybe you could make "TIME FOR KIDS" possible for my students. Thanks for taking the TIME to help some GREAT kids.
