Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach all subjects in a public school with a knowledge-hungry group of third graders in New York City. Situated in the strained South Bronx, these kids attempt daily to escape the adversities that are the realities of their lives. Most of these students come to school with no supplies or materials to help them absorb the vast amount of knowledge that the world has to offer. Many students love to read and learn about what is going on in our world. However, their parents are busy struggling to keep up with buying food or paying the rent that making sure their child has the necessary school supplies is not a priority. Many of the students come to school with no pencils, notebooks or even paper for them to practice their daily lessons. Last year, the school supplied some pencils and I even bought some pencils on my own for the students to use. But because pencils are so essential to their learning and they were in constant use, those pencils were gone within days. With generous donors like you, I hope that I can supply pencils for my students that will last more than a couple of days. Won't you give my students the most fundamental tool necessary for their learning?
