This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you were in school and you enjoyed listening to your favorite story on a cassette player or CD player? Many of my students enjoy listening to stories at the listening center, however our poor stereo does not function anymore the way it should.

Our school is a public school in Nevada.

My students are eager to listen to engaging stories. With our current listening center, a group of 6 students will listen to one book and listen to it at the same time. The listening center also restricts where the students can sit since the stereo has to be plugged in. As you can imagine, it can be quite crowded at the listening center.

My Project

With the iPod shuffles, my students will be able to have the opportunity to select a story they'd like to listen to, rather than having a group of students share one book as they listening to the same story. I want my students to enjoy reading and look forward to finding a 'just right' book that they will enjoy listening to over and over again. As part of our listening center, each student gets to rate the stories they listen to and draw a picture of their favorite parts of the story. The students can then share with the class which stories they found interesting and recommend a book to their friends.

Having 6 iPod shuffles will allow my students to choose where they would like to listen to the stories, instead of being stuck in one place.

My students will then be able to be exposed to different genres and be able listen to a variety of children literature books. We would be very much so grateful for your support in making our listening center a great place for my kindergartners to enjoy listening to a story. Thank you!
