Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each student bring an abundance of inquisitive wonder to the classroom. Our hands on approach to learning often leads to personal clarity as well as deeper and more thought provoking questions. But what do we when our classroom can't provide what's needed to continue the learning adventure?

This group of second graders from the South Bronx is the most excited about learning I have ever met in my nine years in the teaching field!

When I look at them it is easy to forget that 95% of the students live below the federal poverty line. The class also has more then half the students working to learn English as a second language. They have a passion for learning and knowing how everything works! Whether through books or hands-on activities, the students are always on a quest for new knowledge. My room is filled with kids who love to do hands on learning and thinking! They love being able to feel like "big kids" who are independent thinkers and learners as well as work in small groups to share their ideas and build off of their prior knowledge. They enjoy investigating and checking their own work and putting the new learning we do as a whole group to use on their own.

My Project

Each day students will work in small groups or independently using the tools you help purchase. These Hot Dots Sets and Sight Word Sets will give students the opportunity to work at their own learning pace to practice phonics and reading skills such as long and short vowels, blends, digraphs, main idea and cause and effect. While the teacher works with to support struggling students with interventions. The center tools you help purchase will be used to reinforce mini-lessons given daily so that students constantly get hands on practice. All the centers purchased would support independent feedback allowing students to know if they are mastering their phonics/reading skills and advance with confidence and a scene of accomplishment. Regardless if students work to recognize new vocabulary or build letter-sound correlation your support will help students each day become life long learners and feel the power of independent success!

Students who are allowed to work at their own independent pace to work thought and evaluate their learning are far more likely to accelerate within all learning institutions.
