Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are resilient, empathetic and show great accountability towards their learning. However, they lack the much needed life skills required to be successful while navigating the perils of the outside world. This project and materials will enable my students to build an arsenal of skills necessary to tackle the workforce and to instill their might into the entertainment industry. With the emergence of social media the ability to project one's art can be both suppressed by the overwhelming competition or enhanced. With the proper materials my students will distinguish themselves from the rest.

Many students in New York lack the motivation, funding, and guidance to succeed.

With Urban culture being undermined, silenced, and ignored it is imperative to allow children in these neglected and forgotten neighborhoods to pursue their true passion and allow themselves to express their roots in the community and their growth. DJ'ing was originally an escape and a form of art for many including those in New York where the art was born in the 70s Bronx. Each individual has a story to tell in these communities and now with the Hip Hop genre finally gaining recognition and respect in the music industry it is now time to take advantage and let these seeds of creativity in the children's mind sprout. Creativity is ubiquitous, however, the ability to project that creativity into art for others to notice and understand, that is a privilege reserved for few. To mature and grow one must express oneself DJ'ing is the doorway for this expression and therefore a healthier life as they take management of their own talent and skill.
