My Students

We have a great group of enthusiastic students in the 5th grade. Our students are bright, voracious learners and are desperate for curriculum that meets their needs. As their teachers, we want to provide them with the best opportunities available.

Our classes come from all over the five boroughs of Manhattan.

They arrive here via trains, bikes, walking, buses, ferries, all to get the proper education they deserve! We have a lovely school that is currently undergoing a transition, and as with many schools our focus has been on STEM classes. In the midst of things an ELA curriculum hasn't been provided for our students, and we are desperate to get the tools needed for our students to be successful!

My Project

These Units of Studies will be used amongst the whole 5th grade class. We hope that we can pilot this program and in the end, help our school make a decision to provide the Units for all of the other grades! With these Units, our students will become more engaged readers and writers, who dig deeper and have higher understanding of what we do within the classroom. This curriculum will hopefully lead to the next generation of Newbery Award winners!

As mentioned, being able to use a research-based, Common Core aligned curriculum will really help our students get and stay on track as they transition into middle school next year.

As NYC students, our students end up all over the city for middle and high school. With this aligned curriculum, they will be as ready as they could ever be for wherever 6th grade takes them.
