My Students

I teach at a school where 100% of my children receive free breakfast and lunch. We serve a very diverse population of around 440 students. Many of my students do not have access to the public library or many of their own books that they can read at home. Our school library is their main source for the books they read.

Do you remember when you were young and going to the library to check out a book?

Do you remember how excited you were to bring that new book home to read to your parents? I am trying to create that atmosphere with our school library. As the new librarian I have take it upon myself to get as many new and exciting books for our school library.

My Project

These graphic novels will be a wonderful addition to our school library. Students are so excited to come to the library to check out books. They come to the library as soon as they get off the bus and are in the library right before the bell rings.

The library is the heart of our school.

I have worked hard to get books for our library that make out kids eager to come to the library. They stop me in the hall to see if the latest books have come in. They leave me sticky notes to hold books and to request books they would like for me to get for the media center.

Some of their favorite books are graphic novels. They are constantly asking for The Press Start series and the Amazing World of Gumball series. We have a couple of these but they are never on the shelf and the kids are always asking for these books when they come to the library. We recently bought a new non-fiction book and it has been quite the hit. The kids have been asking for books in this series.
