Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our dual language class highlights student voice and social consciousness. In a class where everyone is comfortable taking academic risks and learning from each other, students will understand the power of their individual and collective voice and leverage it using technology.

Our school is an inner-city public school in New York City.

My students are brilliant, inquisitive, and creative learners who expertly research and always ask questions. They dive deeply into our project based social studies and science learning in both Spanish and English!

My Project

My students will be using Chromebooks with Google Apps for Education to conduct research, create interactive multimedia presentations, publish digital writing, and more! Using apps like Google docs and slides, that are collaborative in nature, students will work with each other to dive deep when learning about Geology, The History of Immigrants in New York City, Bridges, Parks and Gardens, Government, etc. In working collaboratively using Google Apps for Education, my students will simultaneously develop their ability to work together as a diverse team, and grow their understanding of how to use technology as a platform for research, publishing, and presentations. My students will also have access to bilingual audio texts, providing unlimited opportunities in reading. Students will closely study photographs, videos, and virtual trips pertaining to our in-depth research. Moreover, my second graders will gain access to computers in their school and develop basic keyboarding and computer literacy skills.

The Chromebooks will provide direct student access to technology that otherwise would not exist in our classroom.

My students will grow in their independence as they navigate web quests and share their work with others in the class, in our school, and in our community. Through the meaningful use of these Chromebooks, my students will gain the necessary confidence and fluency in technology to become bilingual leaders of our ever growing, global society.
