My Project

I currently teach self-contained autistic support in a low socioeconomic community and a title I school. My students currently have open access to all items within the classroom, which is both beneficial but challenging to redirect their attention while instruction is occurring. With this project, I intend to designate and differentiate instructional areas from our current play and group areas.

My intended goals for this project are to redirect students to expected areas, enhance our intensive teaching sessions between myself, 3 Personal Care Aides, and our 6 students.

I also plan to make our instructional areas motivating by using preferred objects, items, and edible reinforcers.

All of my students are so unique. Each child has their own individual needs, strengths, areas to improve upon, and different preferences. Regardless of their disability, our students continue to strive toward mastering skills and goals for early academics, independence, functional communication, and occupational and sensory needs. They are dearly loved and cared for.
