My Project

My students are an incredible bunch of kids from very diverse backgrounds. It is my hope that through the sharing of diverse books, I am able to help build kindness, compassion, and empathy toward people who may not look or sound like they do and open the door to respectful dialogue about differences. I think it’s important for my students of color (no matter where they fall in the skin tone rainbow) to have access to books that include characters that look like them and reflect their culture. It also gives my students who are not people of color the opportunity to explore and get to know cultures outside of their own.
