Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are all part of a Performing and Visual Arts magnet. I believe that both arts and sciences are equally important to my students' education, and technology in the classroom can completely reshape and take their experience beyond the traditional pen and paper classroom.
My students come from a diverse collection of backgrounds and cultures.
The majority of students at my school are low-income students who don't normally have access to technology and extra resources in the home.
My educational background comes from a program that stresses and teaches empathy and compassion as a key part of teaching. Students that learn to accept other students and embrace the many differences that each person brings to the classroom become happier and healthier.
My Project
At the end of last year, we ran a successful campaign, for a Diversity and Inclusivity library of graphic novels, for our classroom. The students have been thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to read about relatable characters and learn about different groups and cultures from their own.
We'd like to expand our library with new stories of diversity and inclusivity and art books.
This selected books represent fiction and non-fiction that empower women, people of color, people with mental health struggles, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ youth. In addition to helping students better understand themselves, this library provides a platform for students to learn and develop empathy and connect with those different than themselves. Each age appropriate book seeks to help children increase social emotional skills, explore new and diverse cultures, and promote literacy skills.
