My Students

Our classroom is comprised of a diverse community of life-long learners. Our students come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds and have diverse learning-styles. Our students are reading a wide range of reading levels.

All our students have developed a genuine love of reading and learning.

They are learning to dive deeper into the text and grow bigger ideas such as social and cultural issues. Our students are beginning to make connections with their own lives and the lives of their characters. They enjoy having student-centered discussions about the characters, character relationships, author's craft, and part-to-whole relationships.

They loved reading in our book clubs and even started creating their own with classroom books and library books to discuss their ideas about the text. We love hearing their insights and their love of reading!

My Project

These books will help us redesign our classroom library to reflect our diverse students and include student voice and choice. Students selected various book series they would like to read and discuss in their book clubs. Students take pride in the books they select for the library and continue to read more and more.

These books will allow students to have access to diverse characters within a range of reading levels to suit their individual needs.

Students will be exposed to and learn about different cultures and social issues. They will have access to texts that will relate to their own identities and diversities. With this abundance of resources, students will be able to create their own student-led book clubs from a variety of different leveled series. This will not only increase student engagement but also promote a life-long love of reading!
