Help me give my students books for book clubs. These texts are representative of the students in my class. I am trying to create a library that reflects them and their friends.

My Students

We are an urban, high-needs elementary school. We have a large free-lunch population and have a large percentage of learners with special needs.

We are an ICT class with a mix of general education and special education students on the autistic spectrum.

We service all of our students with the same energy and intensity, but some students require additional support, which is what we aim to provide. We scaffold every lesson, so there is an entry point for each child, and try to provide the types of physical and emotional supports so our special students can succeed.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place where students can grab a book that represents them and their friends. Having a diverse library is of utmost importance to me. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. The books represent the kinds of stories that students can relate to and also have main characters that reflect their diversity. These books will be used for book clubs, where students read in small groups and discuss the stories.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read in book clubs that match their level.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. I enjoy reading my books alongside my friends and being able to discuss the stories. I want my students to be able to do the same.
