Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 10th grade students will engage in regular book club meetings to fulfill a reading requirement outside of their ELA class. This gives students an opportunity to choose the book they want to engage with over several weeks, and complete regular discussions and activities to support their learning.

Students frequently report that the books they read for their book club are the most enjoyable and memorable texts they read each year.

Book clubs help teach the students accountability while also encouraging them to read more on their own. Teachers know that independent reading helps strengthen students' comprehension and reading stamina. These skills are important for students to develop across all subject areas.
