My Project

This project aims to use diverse non-fiction books to support and enhance the understanding of math, science, and social studies concepts for kindergarten students.

By incorporating a range of books that reflect different cultures, communities, and experiences, I aim to cultivate curiosity and critical thinking while building foundational knowledge in math, science, and social studies.

My kindergarteners are naturally curious, eager to explore the world around them, and often ask big questions. They learn best through engaging, hands-on experiences and stories that connect to their lives. Nonfiction books provide a perfect avenue to connect them to real-world concepts, giving them a solid foundation in math, science, and social studies. These books allow young learners to explore factual information in a way that aligns with their cognitive development and their need for concrete, visual examples.

Math Concepts: Using non-fiction books about numbers and shapes. Students will develop a foundational understanding of early math concepts. These books will include real-life examples of how math is used in daily life, such as counting animals or identifying shapes in the environment.

Science Concepts: Through books on plants, animals, weather, and the environment, students will gain an introduction to basic scientific principles. Diverse books will introduce students to various ecosystems, animal species, and cultural perspectives on science, helping to build a global understanding of the natural world.

Social Studies Concepts: Books about communities, cultures, and historical events will allow students to learn about different traditions, people, and places, fostering respect for diversity and a deeper understanding of the world beyond their immediate surroundings.

By integrating diverse non-fiction books, the project will not only strengthen academic concepts but also promote empathy and a broader worldview, helping to shape informed, compassionate citizens.
