This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a 3rd grade teacher at a Title I school. I teach amazing 8 and 9 year olds with diverse backgrounds and interests. They have big hearts and vivid imaginations. This is my 2nd year teaching and I would like to build my classroom library. My students love to read books from different cultures and backgrounds, and my classroom library lacks cultural diversity that represents all of my students.
My Project
It is important to have a diverse classroom library to support students in finding books that they can relate to and can expand their perception of different cultures. It will also encourage my reluctant readers to find a love of books if they can see themselves represented in the literature. In addition, diverse books teach compassion, empathy, and acceptance. My hope for this year is to update my classroom library with interesting diverse books.
Please support my project of providing my students with books they can read and enjoy every day.
