Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my school are critical thinkers, curious, and they are avid readers. From the moment they enter the school in Pre-K or kindergarten, our staff and parents help them develop a love of learning that is carried with them throughout their educational journey.

Our school and our community work so hard to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to grow and flourish as readers and scholars.

Despite some people's misconceptions about our students, based on their backgrounds and location, they show us that they are leaders every day through their words and actions.

My Project

My first reading unit each year is on fables and fairytales. Despite working in a diverse neighborhood, the texts that I have been provided by my school network only include white characters.

The books in this unit will help my students reach the required standards, but will also help them see the characters through a more familiar lens.

I am also working on introducing my students to cultures from around the world. Some of the books included will support me in taking my students on a journey to new places.
