My Students

Teaching in the classroom is very hard. Educators are always looking for new ideas, new material to motivate the students. These magazines would be a change to the textbooks and will teach the students Spanish and at the same time culture from Spanish speaking countries.

My school is a lottery school.

This means that our students come from different backgrounds. We have them from very needy neighborhoods and good neighborhoods. Our size is small (around 500 students) and because of that our budget is small and not able to get supplies for every class and sadly foreign language is not a priority. I try to make my students understand that knowing an extra language is an advantage for them in any job they will get in the future. Our country needs more bilingual people that are able to compete internationally and bring our country back to where it was once. This is why I try to find new ways for my students to understand the Spanish culture and the language.

My Project

These magazines bring topics (in Spanish) that are close to my teenagers. They will learn Spanish through games, Spanish and English gossip. The magazines will show them the Spanish culture in a different format that will attract their attention and keep them interested.

Being motivated and interested is what teaching is all about.

Looking for different ways of teaching, hands on, sharing out, working in groups is all I am trying to do and I need help getting different materials in order to keep their attention on all the time.
