My students come from diverse backgrounds and deserve to be represented in the books they are reading. My students should discover different cultures and have the opportunity to learn about people who are different from them through the use of books. Having a diverse read aloud selection will allow me to open up discussions about difficult topics that impact my student's lives. Using books to discuss race, gender, equality, emotions, etc. will support students learning while teaching them about the world and people around them. I hope to succeed in teaching my students to be accepting of others, of themselves, and to be a kind humans.
