Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hey everyone! I teach 9th-grade English. Let me tell you—getting teens to read these days is tough. Many of my students are struggling readers, and when they do pick up a book, they want something that speaks to them. That’s why I’m aiming for a classroom library filled with diverse and engaging books that reflect my students' cultures—and give them a window into experiences beyond their own.

A lot of my students haven’t found "their book" yet—the one that makes them actually want to read.

Many are reading below grade level, and traditional texts can feel like a chore. But when they get their hands on a book they vibe with, something amazing happens: they read. They engage. They actually enjoy it. Graphic novels and diverse authors help bridge that gap, making reading feel accessible and worth it for them.

With your support, I can bring in books that my students want to read—stories with characters that look like them, sound like them, and go through struggles like them. At the same time, they’ll be exposed to different cultures, perspectives, and ideas. This project isn’t just about improving reading skills (though that’s a huge plus!); it’s about fostering a love of literature that sticks with them beyond my classroom.

My students are curious, thoughtful, and full of potential—they just need the right books to unlock it. Many come from backgrounds where reading isn't a priority, or they’ve struggled to find books relevant to their lives. I want to change that. I want them to walk into my classroom, grab a book off the shelf, and actually want to read it.

Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to that goal. Thank you for helping me create a space where every student can find a book that speaks to them!
