My Students

I work with first and second graders at an elementary school. I am a special educator teacher and we have an inclusive model so I support both the students on my caseload with various disabilities, and other students in the general education classroom.

My Project

These materials will enhance the class library and guided reading times. Many of our current guided reading book options and books in our library only feature white students. However, all of my students are students of color. It has been proven in research that students who see themselves positively reflected in literature and learning environments can have an immeasurable positive impact. We will use these to continue to bolster students' phonemic awareness skills, phonics, and reading comprehension skills for both read alouds, guided reading, and independent reading time. My students will be able to read and see themselves in literature, helping them dream further than before!
