My Students

My students and I spent this year in distance learning. Even though distance learning has been a struggle for my students in different ways, we have created amazing routines, art projects and science experiments. At the end of February, many of my students and I will be returning to in-school learning. It will be challenging and wonderful at the same time. I am requesting these supplies to get my classroom ready for our upcoming circumstances.

We are living through history.

My students are incredible people. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends.

My Project

Students who don't see themselves reflected in books are less likely to see themselves as readers. The characters in the books of this project are diverse and reflect the diverse identities of my students.

As my students come back to in-school learning, I want to make sure that there are amazing new and engaging books greeting them into our classroom.

These books will help ignite my readers and give them a variety of book series that they can enjoy during our daily independent reading time.

With access to books in their classroom, students become readers. Readers have a deeper relationship with books when they can identify the types of books they like, find characters they connect with and have constant conversations with their friends about what they are reading. Research shows that students who talk about books with their peers are more likely to read on their own and develop an identity as a reader. We will be a community of readers!
