Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is home to preschoolers & elementary students with special needs. We are a low Income school with most students living below the poverty line. Often our teachers and providers raise money themselves or use their own money to purchase enhancing learning materials to help reach our students and enrich their learning. The speech providers at our school spent three years collecting books from book-drives and purchasing books out-of-pocket to create a school library, as our school was not provided with one. With hard-work and dedication we have created our "Bookworm Library" and had launched it this year! We are so proud of ourselves, however we do need your help.

Our school population is predominately African-American, Hispanic/Latinx, and Asian-American and we are in desperate need of books that represent our students!

Diversified books are key for building a child's social-emotional development and increasing self-esteem. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated. We are super hopeful that we could get funded for the books on our list such as "Hair Love" a book that emphasizes the beauty of natural hair, "A Little Book about Culture" for it's ability to teach about different cultures present at our school, and "Little Legends: Exceptional Men in Black History" a book that will motivate our young readers!
