My Students
This is my first full year of teaching. I started teaching in the classroom, January 2021. My students come from a low-income area. Over 80% of our student population receives free or reduced-price lunches. I would like to provide a learning environment where the students can come to school feeling successful. Like many other educators, I am cultivating a strong learning community.
The sense of humor, curiosity, and level of resilience that these students possess amaze me.
My students are enrolled in a Title I funded school and are in the DHH (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) Program. They typically do not use their ears for learning, they rely heavily on what they see and feel. Because of the pandemic, it is imperative now more than ever for them to have their own materials.
My Project
In a literary world where the average percentage of children's books that contain multicultural content is around 10%, I want my library to be more inclusive! I want diverse books that can be read year round, not just in February. We need books for every genre, not only Informational texts. We want fiction, mystery, graphic novels, anything! We need books with diverse characters!
The funding of this project would provide books for my classroom library that will honor and recognize the need for equity of characters that represent the diverse background of my students!
With your help, our classroom library can become a place where each and every student can have access to books that offer multicultural stories.
