Help me give my students the books that they are actually reading. They are reading graphic novels nonstop, so I am trying to get as many as I can for them to read.

My Students
The late Rita Pierson said, "Every child deserves a champion -- an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists they become the best that they possibly can be."
My students are MY champions.
This diverse group of inner-city fifth graders never give up on themselves or their learning, and they demand the best from themselves. They have their days where a task seems too challenging at first, but through their perseverance, they discover on their own that they can most definitely handle it. These moments of discovery are happening more and more in my classroom. Every day, these students discover just how powerful they are.
My Project
Students' interests are changing, and our classroom libraries need to change with them. That is not a knock on classic children's literature like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland or Charlotte's Web, but students are not picking up those books.... yet. We have to get our students to fall in love with reading, and for that to be possible, our libraries need books that students actually want to read.
Students need books filled with characters that look like them.
The world has finally woken up to the injustice of poor racial representation in the books our students are reading. Not only do we need books that students want to read, but we also need books that represent our students. That will make reading much more impactful.
