My Students

My students are full of excitement about third grade and being in school! They are sweet and ready to learn new things every day. Our school is fairly new. It opened seven years ago and is lacking many instructional materials and flexible seating options for students to help them integrate movement and learning together.

Our school has a moderate poverty level; about 40% of our students receive a free or reduced lunch.

My goal is to fill our classroom with as many literary resources as possible. Having a diverse classroom library is key when it comes to keeping students engaged in reading. We are building a love of reading in third grade and need texts that students can connect with and are eager to read!

My Project

Students are more likely to read a text that they can make a connection with. In our classroom, we have very few texts that mimic our actual student population. Student's would love to have texts that relate to their culture, friends, and family. I believe that by adding these types of text to our classroom, students levels of reading stamina and engagement will increase. The books I have chosen not only relate to our current student population, but they also inspire students from all backgrounds to dream big and reach for the stars.
