My Students

My students are bright, engaged, creative thinkers who thrive in a school space that allows them to think critically and independently. My students attend a Title I school in Oakland, California with a school-wide free breakfast and lunch program. Many of my students come from families and communities that have experienced some form of trauma and often have difficulty coming to school. Our school has an increasing amount of newcomer families, which continue to make our school an amazing and diverse community where all are welcome.

My students are scientists, writers, dreamers, poets, musicians, athletes, dancers, readers, and mathematicians.

They want to succeed in school and it is my goal to provide them with the resources they need to do so.

My Project

These books will help create a print-rich classroom that is culturally relevant and serves as mirrors into my students lives. My students come from an incredibly diverse range of backgrounds and deserve to have books that reflect their lived experiences. As a teacher, I love watching my students make connections to books, whether they are reading alone, in partners, or listening to a read aloud.

These books will help me teach my students about acceptance, kindness, empathy and the importance of loving ourselves and our communities.

What's more, these books will intensify my student's connection to literature and help create life long readers.

My young readers love books and I want to give them access to characters that look like them, talk like them, act like them, eat like them, and live like them. Please help me in this goal!
