Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hola and welcome to my project! I teach Spanish 1, 4 and IB along with Latinos in Action at West High School. My students come from a mixed income background many of which are from low income/disadvantaged homes. They are trying to learn Spanish as a second or third language and I want to encourage them to read in Spanish and become more comfortable with the language, while practicing what we learn in class. Reading is the best way for them to learn and practice what we are learning.

Reading opens doors for all students to explore cultures and experiences different than their own and building this classroom set will do just that.

For my LIA class, which is not focused on learning a new language I included inclusive books from diverse authors for them as well.

My goal is to create a welcoming and engaging environment for my students. Anything is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks for stopping by!

My Project

There are many books in this project from diverse authors to create a beautiful tapestry of stories from all over the world. Books provide countless opportunities for students to learn and explore stories different than their own and in the process they will not only learn a new language, but also discover diverse cultures along the way.

I also included arts and crafts supplies to engage students in fun and creative projects that focus on culture along with some festive decorations.

Every year we host a big Día de los muertos celebration and I included the supplies that we will need for our celebration in this project as well.
