Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Kindergarten is the first year of school for a lot of students. It is the most important grade in our children's education, here is where they start to develop their love of learning, it is their foundation for the rest of their school years. My students live in a diverse low-income community. Due to the uncertainty of our times we do not know if we will be gathering in person or if we will be learning from home. Kindergarten is used to teach children how to hold a pencil, letter formation, how to read and write. Working in low-income communities things such as pencils, crayons, markers, pencils and books are a luxury that not everyone has, especially now since so many people have to stop working because of the restrictions put in place due to COVID-19. With your help, I will be making sure that my students have these resources at home.
Kindergarten is one of the most magical years.
I am driven to provide a magical year whether it is through distance learning or in-person classes. Having access to inclusive books will help develop their love of reading, but also a love for themselves and others.
My Project
Books are so much more than pages put together, for my students it is a portal that will teach them about different members of their community. They will learn to love their own culture and others. My students live in a low social-economic community. If we are doing virtual learning they will be limited in what they experience but with inclusive books I will be able to create read-aloud videos and activities that they can do at home to apply what they learned, this is why it is crucial that all of my students have access to pencils and crayons at home, so that they can fully take part of what the book will teach them.
Access to a pencil makes a world of a difference.
If my students must learn from home, with the help of donors I will make sure that my students have access to their basic needs, such as pencils, crayons, books and activities that will help them understand the lessons learned, foster their love of reading and build a strong foundation in writing. While doing my phonics lessons they will be practicing their letter formations and work their way up to words, so it is important that they have writing tools. I will be making packets that they can use throughout the entire DL time and pencils, crayons and markers will be so helpful to my students, and it will lift a burden from their parents who are facing an economic hardship due to COVID-19.
More than half of students from low‑income households
