Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Like many other schools around the country, my school was closed till the end of year because of the pandemic. Students and teachers had to adjust to this new learning style in a blink of an eye. Students didn't take materials home and teachers expected to be back to pick up supplies and other teaching materials but that was not the case. Students are working from home with devices either supplied by the school or one that they have at home already which in some cases are old or broken. Teachers like myself made their dining room the new home classroom and work from any device in the household,

Our school is located in a low-economic neighborhood where about 90% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Many come from broken homes that have been separated because of their dream to come to the United States or because of natural disasters. Some of the students in my school suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD), are ESL students (English as a Second Language), and/or have other types of special needs. Regardless of their challenges, though, the majority of the students are very determined and eager to succeed.

My Project

It has been a difficult transition to Distance Learning from our regular classroom setting. Having a document camera will allow me to share different activities such as our novel reading. Using the camera, I will be able to annotate and display for my students. It is very convenient to have this as an instructional tool. The mobile document scanner will give me the accessibility to scan an image or PDF making all the text captured editable and searchable. These materials are tools to facilitate better teacher-students communication through Distance Learning.
