Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an inner-city second grade teacher. Many of my students are impoverished and live in crowded apartments with many family members. About 40 percent of my students are Latino, 50 percent of my students are African Americans and 10 percent other.

Their parents are either workers declared essential or suffering from the anxiety of being laid off.

So it's extremely hard for parents to purchase needed school supplies for virtual learning when providing their child a daily meal and finding enough soap and hand sanitizer to stay safe from the coronavirus.

My Project

If my project is funded, students will need supplies for daily assignments. I will still need to teach language, math, science and social science. Students will need notebooks, pencils, crayons, leveled reading books, and learning games to keep them engaged and motivated.

During the language block, I will introduce an objective with a game.

If I'm teaching rhyming words, I will use rhyming word cards or a game to introduce the skill. If I'm teaching fractions in math, I'll use a fraction pizza game to introduce the skill. Successful teachers are constantly exploring ways to keep students moving forward!
