My Students

My students are mostly low income and our school is one of the most culturally diverse in the city of Philadelphia. We are a melting pot of different languages, religions etc...

What makes my students special is that most of them are going to be the first generation in their families to attend college.

Their parents are working two jobs in some cases to make a better life for their kids. My students represent not only their dreams but the dreams of their parents.

My Project

Once again I turn to Donorschoose to help make my students science classroom engaging with the addition of laboratory materials. I am so excited about the molecular models and can't wait to use them to help illuminate the structure of proteins as I have never been able to do before. In addition, the frogs, pigs, fruit flies, sheep brains and pill bugs will give my students a chance to work with real organisms and perform genetic experiments. The exposure to engaging hands on activities will ignite a passion to motivate some of these students to go on themselves and become researchers, biochemists and maybe even doctors!
