My students need equipment for dissections so they can build understanding of how particular structures help organisms survive.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a multitude of cultural backgrounds and have varying learning styles. I am lucky to be able to accommodate students with diverse learning needs, giving them access to rigorous, differentiated science instruction.
My students are so excited about science.
Our curriculum includes a lot of inquiry-based learning, and they are thriving with all the hands-on exploration they get to do. One of my students actually said to me "I was never really into science before. I mean, it was ok, but I was never really engaged before." They all deserve to continue to experience science as being FOR them.
My Project
Last year was a great success, with lots of hands-on investigations and model building. This year I am moving up to 7th grade with my former 6th graders, and they are ready to step up their science skills!
One of the most common questions I get each year is "Are we going to dissect something?" Last year the answer was "no" because we lacked supplies.
Help me make the answer "Yes!" this year!
During our ecology unit, which is based around invasive species in our very own Great Lakes system, students will get the chance to dissect a lamprey to determine the structures that make it so good at surviving. They will also come face to face with the reason these creatures are so destructive - spoiler alert, its that suction cup mouth lined with razor sharp teeth! Please help me make this engaging activity possible.
