Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have grown up in an inner city. Many of these children face poverty, violence and obscenities of life on a daily basis that are well beyond what most of us could not imagine. They are always looking to learn new things and explore different subjects more in depth. They come to school hungry for knowledge trying to do their best to learn as I try to do my best to give them a good education and an introduction to the American way of life.

My school has limited resources.

Having these resources will keep my students' minds moving and active; also giving them resources to experiment with and simple experiments to do in the classroom or at home gives them motivation to explore. This will be able to keep students engaged in reading at all levels and topics.

My students need more resources that reflect their environment. Science is important to my students. We practice science through reading, but they love doing science experiments, so a kit would help them explore more. Furthermore, National Geographics kits have outstanding, easy-to-follow instructions for parents and kids to explore on their own. Students are so limited by the world around them that we need to extend it miles through reading and experimenting.

What my students love most is hands-on experiments. Being able to see in person, how an experiment starts, what the outcome is, and the discussions we will have in the process, will teach them more than any book.

My students need to continue being challenged, to increase their reading stamina but most of all as they increase their stamina, they will continue reaching for higher-level books and activities, so let's continue to push our future scientists.
