Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 28 of the most energetic first graders who are eager to learn. The school is 100% economically disadvantaged and most of our students rely on meals, snacks and school supplies that they receive while at school. Most of my students face challenging obstacles that they bring to school with them, varying from homelessness, no adult supervision after school, taking on responsibilities of younger siblings and parents that can give little or no support academically. These challenges can hinder a child's ability to focus on their academics.

My Project

The materials will allow my students to discover math and science with a hands on experience.

The Base 10 hands- on set will be used daily giving my students to opportunity to develop the skills in comparing numbers, regrouping, expanded notation, place value, addition and subtraction.

The magnetic base 10 set will give my students a visual of representing numbers with base ten. The science Lakeshore Magnet Set will amaze my students with their wonders of magnetism. My students will be able to discover how magnet poles attract and repel various objects. These materials will ensure that my students are developing academic skills and building interest in math and in science.
