My students need a Classroom Owl Pellet Study Kit and 60 Owl Pellets.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Rozza's classroom raised $366
This project is fully funded
We are a high-need public school with many children who have many special education and English language learners, as well as many students who do not have many enriching educational opportunities beyond the classroom.
"Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand" This Chinese proverb neatly sums up the teaching philosophy of our science program. Our 200+ fourth graders are learning about the Living Environment. Owl pellets, when dissected, enable students to work as detectives to uncover clues about this fascinating creature's diet.
Owl "pellets" that are pasteurized for safe use will be dissected by the students. Students will find bones from a variety of organisms eaten by the owl, who had regurgitated the pellet. The classroom kit includes posters for bone identification and a video about discovery through owl pellets.
Your donation will give inner city students the opportunity to behave like scientists as they draw conclusions about their discoveries. Our hope is with many hands-on experiences feeling like scientists, we will inspire a thirst for inquiry, and an appreciation of its rewards.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
