My Project

Let’s face it, the more educated we get about things like gravity and magnetism, the more mysterious and compelling the universe is. I want to keep my students’ fascination alive with hands-on activities by which they can investigate the allure of these fundamental forces.

My class is a multi-disciplinary one in which fascinating subjects like infinity, AI, and genetic engineering are examined not merely scientifically, but also historically, artistically, and even with connections to technology and social justice.

This unit will examine fundamental forces in the universe, using the wires, batteries and motors, and culminate in a field trip to the Planetarium. (Students will be examining gravity, for example, through parabolas and dropping objects to measure reaction time.)

Our school is a lively place filled to the brim with students from all over the city. We are diverse in most ways you can imagine, including national origin, home language, ethnicity, and socioeconomics. One thing we all have in common is that we will take these units seriously and genuinely enjoy investigating academic subjects.

Hopefully these early experiences will perpetuate the wide-eyed wonder all children have when they are young, but which must be cultivated in society for it to thrive into adulthood. Your participation in this project directly engenders the cultivation of wonder. Thank you in advance.

Warmly,

Nick Graham
