This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted students' learning experiences, creating challenges in both academic and social-emotional development. The "Discover, Play, Thrive" project, with its diverse array of physical activities, addresses these challenges in several ways.

This project aims to introduce elementary students to a diverse range of physical activities, fostering a love for movement that lasts a lifetime.

By providing an array of equipment, such as stopwatches for a variety of timed activities, mini golf, jump ropes, hurdles, chickens (for OPEN PhysEd Games- bringing fun and laughter in the classroom), and more (clipboards for use for outside cognitive assessments; bins for games, organization and storage; lamination for visual aid posters), students will have the opportunity to explore various activities in a fun and engaging way. The project encourages a playful and inclusive environment where children can experiment with different activities, discovering what resonates with them the most.

Through this approach, students not only improve their physical fitness but also develop a positive attitude towards an active lifestyle. The project provides a platform for students to engage in physical activities that promote social interaction, teamwork, and emotional well-being. Collaborative games and activities foster a sense of connection and support. Regular physical activity is also known to reduce stress and anxiety. Physical activity has also been linked to improved cognitive function and academic performance.

Exposure to a variety of activities helps them identify their interests and preferences, allowing them to choose activities they genuinely enjoy. The project's ultimate goal is to instill a lifelong appreciation for movement and physical well-being, empowering students to carry these positive habits into adolescence and adulthood. By providing a foundation of enjoyable physical experiences, "Discover, Play, Thrive" sets the stage for a healthier, happier, and more active future for our elementary school students.
