Disappointed Art Students Need Help to Meet Graduation Requirements
The cost of a classroom set of thirteen different poster paints is $808, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Litto's classroom raised $808
This project is fully funded
I am the art and music teacher at a high school in Brooklyn. Our school is a Title I school in which 86 percent of the students are eligible for the government-funded free-lunch program. The students are trying hard to graduate from high school despite very difficult lives and many obstacles. These students are very poor and disadvantaged, yet they value education and are coming to school weekdays, nights, and Saturdays to make sure they graduate.
My students and I were told there would be a budget for their art class on Saturday this year so they could pass this class and earn the credits to graduate. After promises made and withdrawn, however, there is no money for the supplies the students need to complete this course to fulfill requirements for graduation.
The students are understandably disappointed and frustrated, and so am I. The promised budget was a few thousand dollars for the needed supplies, including paper, portfolios, markers, paints, and other items. I am writing this proposal to request funding to buy poster paints for the class. Any help with these supplies would be greatly appreciated because class has already started and we are all faced with working without proper art materials. The students in this class are all free-breakfast and free-lunch students. They do not even have a box of colored pencils at home. Again, any help is greatly appreciated.
