My Students

My students are full of energy and they get excited about things that interest them. It is great when I see that eagerness to learn. They have their own way sometimes of showing that they care about what they do. One common thing that I have seen amongst many of them is that they are very creative and many of them are very good artists.

My Project

I am a seventh-grade life science teacher in Alabama. Based on the Alabama Course of Study Standards, my classes are working on standards twelve through fourteen. I like to find ways for the students to enjoy what they are learning, and the previously mentioned standards are some standards that I think the students are enjoying learning about. They are diving into the pool of studying genetics, and I think that it will be awesome for the students to be able to build upon what they are learning as we go throughout our studies and standards by completing hands-on projects. The current standards will lead to the students studying fossils, anatomical structures, and modern organisms. I would love for the students to be able to build skeletal structures and full-bodied dinosaurs. I think they would love this. I will also have them research their dinosaurs and see how over time modern organisms may have resulted from these prehistoric animals. They will also be creating a timeline of evolution. Researching information on the dinosaurs that they choose and linking the evolutionary relationships to modern organisms will enhance students' critical thinking skills. I think that it will build their learning confidence and overall general knowledge and confidence because they will see what they have learned and accomplished. Also with the art materials bought from the grant, if chosen, can be reused for future projects as well.
