Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is made up of diligent, inspiring, and creative fourth graders with big hearts and analytical minds. They attend school every day with purpose and a desire to learn something new, to discuss what they think, and take pride in their efforts. My students learn in a bilingual community with a high level of family support. They attend our school with growing technology opportunities that enhance their approach, application, and articulation of their knowledge and their new learning. We balance this with creativity and physical opportunities with that support the development of persistence, teamwork, and determination.
My Project
We read a great deal of informational and literary text in fourth grade. We are able to have engaging discussions about what the authors write and what their writing means to us. Studying plot structures while we dig through character traits, rising and falling actions, the unfolding climax, and finally the resolutions gives us great reason to think deeply about author’s intent, their message, and what we believe as the ultimate take away. My students are crazy for plot twists, deep characters, and shocking dialogue. Knowing that students have all of this engagement, I want to use this interest to create and share our own digital storytelling with these elements in mind in a creative way for our own audiences. This would allow students to reach beyond the literature and delve into their ideas further in an innovative way.
“Storytelling strengthens the imagination.
To imagine is to envision, to see with the inward eye.” ~ Carol Birch,
My project includes students creating and presenting multimedia movies with photographs, video, animation, text, sound, music, and narration. We will use the lapel microphones to help students narrate their ideas into the multi-media projects on their ipads with an audible sound. Then they will be able to project their digital stories to an audience with the speakers so that their music and narrations are clear and inspiring to the audience. These stories will be a fantastic expressive medium that can be learned and executed across the curriculum.
This opportunity to extend their ideas into digital storytelling will provide a creative modality to think, plan, develop, and publish in ways that deeply consider audience and
