My Students

Do you remember being bored in school? Before coming to the highly capable program as fourth and fifth graders, my students experienced a lot of boredom at school. They were not challenged, learned little and often were used as tutors for slow students.

During my two years with these students, I try to provide the most engaging and challenging math and science curriculum possible.

I particularly like to integrate math and science with current environmental topics. When I read about Mathalicious and the JASON Project, I knew that these materials would be a good fit for my students.

My Project

Mathalicious is a rigorous digital library of lessons that address the Common Core Standards. The multimedia presentations and videos will bring math alive using my Smartboard. Students will find the topics engaging and challenging. For example to study proportions, I would use the lesson "Should people with small feet pay less for shoes?" I would use the library to supplement my current math curriculum. I am also requesting four STEM teacher units developed by The JASON Project and National Geographic. Each unit provides articles, videos, hands-on lab activities, games, lesson plans and assessments. They last between five and nine weeks and teach students important science content that impacts our environment. I would add these four units to my two year science curriculum rotation.
