My Students

My students are asked to create 12 artworks on a theme/ subject. They work on themes varying from reflective objects to urban landscapes to portraits. They need a way to create source imagery to work from. I have purchased one camera that they share. They need access to digital cameras.

My students are art rock stars!

We do not have a budget for art materials. Everything we use is brought in by the students, purchased by the teacher, donated by art advocates(community members) or won in competitions. My students understand that I purchase most materials and are very respectful about using the products. They currently share one camera and one printer. My students are very competitive across our district and have the highest advanced placement scores in our school. when we display their art works their peers and teachers shower the young artists with praise.

My Project

If my students have access to using 6 cameras on a regular basis they will improve on many levels. Their sense of composition will radically improve through using a viewfinder. The subjects and themes they choose to explore will be improved because they will be able to bring any part of the city, any person they know, or and still life object into the classroom. It is hard to work from pure memory of a subject. There technical skills will improve. They will not be work exclusively from their imaginations. The young artists will be ale to more accurately analyze proportion and color of their subjects. Making better artwork leads to stronger portfolios. The strongest portfolios get the biggest scholarships. Scholarships change students lives.

Receiving the digital cameras will allow my students to use their time in a most effective manner.

They will no longer have to wait up to month to have access to the one classroom camera. They will be able to create source images as needed. They will also be ale to record work in stages and as they complete each work.
